Bio

Edwina Owens Elliott was born in Chicago, Illinois. She began drawing before starting kindergarten and decided to become a fashion designer by the age of 10. After high school, she was accepted in the Fashion Design program at the prestigious Parsons School of Design in New York and finished her education with an Associate’s Degree in Fashion Illustration.

As a Senior Art Director at the esteemed Chicago retailer Marshall Field & Co., Edwina created award-winning advertising, working with models Cindy Crawford, Jennifer Beals, Chris O’Donnell, Uma Thurmond and launching a fresh new talent named Halle Berry. She shot with acclaimed photographers Bob Frame, Marc Hauser, Michael Weinstein and Jerry Avenaim and became Lead Art Director for the luxury retailers’ Children and Juniors division.

As a Freelance Art Director, Illustrator and Graphic Designer in Chicago, Edwina’s client list included Ogilvy & Mather, Leo Burnett, Marshall Field & Co., Bloomingdales, Burrell Communications, Carson Pirie Scott & Co., Sears, Soft Sheen Productions, Montgomery Ward, Nobart Chicago and WGCI Radio.

As a Graphic Designer and Illustrator, Edwina has collaborated on print, TV and radio advertising and graphics for the Alliance Theatre Company with Broadway award-winning stage director Kenny Leon and David H. Bell and playwrights Elton John & Tim Rice, Janece Shaffer, Debbie Allen and the late August Wilson. She has created book covers for the Penguin Group, art directed and designed national and international consumer and trade advertising and B2B marketing materials for Avlon Industries, Inc. and created collateral and print material for The NAMES Project Foundation-The AIDS Memorial Quilt.

Edwina resides with her husband in Atlanta, GA and does not miss the Chicago winters even the tiniest bit.

Thank you Sam. I’m really no longer up on the happenings in Chicago but I understand that things are really popping in Bronzeville these days. Restaurants, boutiques, nightlife. all of that. When I lived in Chicago, you wouldn’t ride down the streets of this area for fear of your life and now, well, it’s a brand new day.

I just subscribed to your blog too! It’s so festive and colorful with great diversity, which is missing on so many others. Kudos! And enjoy Chicago. It’s a beautiful city.
