Something NEW for you!
I COULDN’T WAIT!!! I just couldn’t wait. I’m way too excited and gotta share this with you NOW. So clutch the pearls—are you ready? Due to the request of our customers, we’re introducing—drumroll please—FASHION+ART NOTE CARDS!
When you speak we pay attention. And several have spoken. They’ve said two words. Note Cards. Who knew? But boy are we happy we listened. Even if I say so myself—I just love these little things!
Here’s a short sample of what’s in store—
What do you think? Are they DIVINE? That’s what my girlfriend Patty said. Divine.
They’re not available just yet—but they’re coming! All seven F+A print collections in sets of six, seven or eight cards. With envelopes of course. They’re faaaa-bulously versatile for birthday greetings, congratulations, best wishes—or just touching base with your favorite I-can-really-dig-this-diva. You’re going to love them! And so will your snazziest and jazziest friends.
A refined and delicate statement.
From the very first pencil sketches until the end results in full color, we’re pleased to feature these two special pieces from the FASHION+ART Gallery. STATE IT IN BLACK from the PURE FASHION COLLECTION and SAIL AWAY ONE TWO from SOLITAIRES.
…BLACK is a Valentino frock, in all his elegant darkness. Don’t you love the short sleeve and the elbow-length glove? The upturned collar and big, poufy skirt? Add a veil and, well, what an elegant ensemble for a final goodbye.
And while SAIL AWAY… screams “Ralph!”, I can’t be certain. Memory fails me on this one. But the blue and white color combo and horizontal stripes does say Ralph, circa 1990, doesn’t it? I’d bet money on it.
By the way, all framed prints in the PENCILS Collection are available at 15.75″ x 19.75 – inches only. I’ve been meaning to point that out to you. And priced at just 115.00 per, we are practically giving these away. On their own, in a group or, as with these two, alongside their color companions, they make a very refined and delicate statement. So go on. Treat yourself to a new print. Don’t you deserve it?
Vanity Run Amuck!
What better inspiration is there than art? Art that represents all you aspire to be. Your inner goddess deserves the attention, the acknowledgment. Especially when working your lotions and potions at this most sacred of spaces. Your vanity table.
For some, the only thing better than leopard is MORE leopard. Right? HEAD UP SHOULDERS BACK from the SOLITAIRES collection brings the wild cat home in this space we borrowed from Elle Decor. Don’t do anything halfway, I say. Take it to the max or don’t take it at all. FLOW, also from SOLITAIRES, slips easily into this exquisite corner designed by Madeline Weinrib. Displayed to the left of FLOW is BOWLICIOUS and JACKIE from the PENCILS Collection. Can you imagine waking up to this every morning? What an inspiring way to start the day!
Here, the slinky SAIL AWAY ONE TWO from SOLITAIRES adds casual elegance to a bohemian mix of beads, bonnets and birdcages. KISS ME from the VINTAGE COLLECTION lends her feminine charms to another eclectic grouping from House To Home. Each precious element was carefully selected it seems, packing a ton of creativity and flair. Wonderful, isn’t it? When you love it, it shows.
So there you have it, Doll. Didn’t I tell you? Fashion art IS art. We’ve seen works from the Gallery displayed in your living room, your office, your bath, and in nooks and crannies everywhere. But for every piece we’ve featured, there’s another corner, another room, another wall that sits cold and bare, waiting for you to show it a little love. With our prints arriving at your doorstep framed and ready for immediate display, it can’t get any easier. So what are you waiting for?
We’re Tooting Our Horn, Baby!
There’s no better advertising than HIGH PRAISE from a happy customer. These three absolutely love the prints they’ve purchased from FASHION+ART and posted their satisfaction on Facebook for the whole world to see. Or, at the very least, all of their friends. And our friends, too! We’re so pleased by their heartfelt sentiments. Gotta share! Toot toot beep beep…
BLACK LACE from the Croquis Collection
ANATOMY TIMES EIGHT from Solitaires
WINDY from Pure Fashion
Love their passion. Their JOY. That’s just how art should move you! So come. Join us in the Gallery. With 7 collections and over 40 exquisite pieces, we guarantee you’ll find that one print you’ve been searching for. The one that leaves you breathless. Don’t believe it? See for yourself. But we should warn you. There won’t be just one. There will be two…then three…then four…

You Can MAKE It Work!
The Bath. The John. The Powder Room. The Loo. We all have our special terms for this most private of spaces and we spend a lot of our time there bathing, sitting, getting in gear for work or maybe primping for a date. Some think it’s silly and indulgent to hang art in the bathroom. Okay. But it’s my opinion that this room, like all the others, deserves the impact of visual appeal. And the ability, like Calgon, to whisk you away to a place of artful serenity. Our goal is to help you get there.
One piece is often all it takes to convey every little thing you’d like to say. And SMOKIN LEATHER from the BLACK & WHITE COLLECTION says it with much conviction, make no mistake. This linear space featured in the UK’s Living, etc. magazine requires a take-no-prisoners approach, don’t you agree? But perhaps you lean towards cutting-edge elegance. This S. R. Gambrel bath relies on a strong black and white motif to keep it fresh. Embrace it. COOL BREEZE from the VINTAGE COLLECTION is your ticket there.
Sometimes one piece says it all, it’s true, but six pieces can say it so much better. Here, the PENCILS Collection is in full affect in another space by S. R. Gambrel, softening the hard lines of meticulous tiling. CRINOLINED DANDY from the PURE FASHION COLLECTION adds a bit of whimsy to a sterile public rest room from John Ellis and Met Home Design 100. I love art in public baths, don’t you? It’s those little extras that make all the difference. So if your office provides such conveniences, remember to include eye-catching art work along with the potpourri.
The same three works from the DIGITAL COLLECTION come alive in two very different decors. Another black and white story incorporates our art as if commissioned exclusively for this beach house bath. The identical three pieces add punch to the delicate feel of a lady-like boudoir. Sometimes it’s not about the decor. It’s not about color. It’s all about your love of the art. Hang it and be fearless. You can make it work!
So please don’t neglect what is clearly one of the most important spaces in your home. Think about it like this. It may be days before you step into your living or dining room but visiting the bath is part of your daily routine. And like any routine spot, the key is to make it a place you look forward to spending time in. So, let’s meet up in the Gallery—
Cranky Elves Are Not Fashionable
We interrupt our regularly scheduled series of HOW’S IT HANGING? to bring you this very special message:
The FASHION+ART Elves have been busy, busy, busy, matting and framing prints for our customers. They’ve got a fancy mat cutter and plenty of space to work. Now it’s true, they DO get a little cranky when things slow down. They like it when there’s plenty to do. So keep those print orders coming and our elves happy and productive. Have you ever seen a cranky elf? Trust me. It’s not a pretty sight.
Our feature today is HEAD UP SHOULDERS BACK from the SOLITAIRES COLLECTION. Perhaps an artist shouldn’t have a favorite piece any more than a mother should have a favorite child but this has always been one of my special darlings. I love the exuberance of this dress. Have you ever seen anything so wickedly chic? There’s a place in your space for her, I’ll bet.
Our next post, we will return to the HOW’S IT HANGING? series and feature…Bathrooms. Yep. FASHION+ART in your bathroom. It’s not as far-fetched as you may think. In the meantime, see you in the Gallery—
Claim It! It’s YOURS.
When you think about the long hours spent at your place of employment, whether it’s a crowded little room in the back of the boutique or a corner suite in the NBC tower, shouldn’t this space reflect your style and your essence just as artfully as your home? I think so. Without a doubt. Once your name has been added to the company directory the space is yours, Doll, so by all means, claim it! Retire that dusty bowl of fruit that’s hung there since time began and replace it with “HELLO”!
It could be a doctors’ office designed by Amanda Burge or an enclosed corner of the warehouse by The Inman Co. but a dash of the Diva is always welcome. Display your art as proudly as that hard-earned diploma. Nothing conveys competence like confidence in yourself and your aesthetic choices.
Whether it’s dark and drama-driven like SSH or blazing with vivid color from West Elm, your office and especially the art in your office should be an extension of you. Who else? Keep your sense of style and great panache top of mind for all who enter your domain.
Today we’re featuring SILVER FOXES from the CROQUIS COLLECTION. And there’s a story, too. From a very early age my one desire was to be a fashion designer. Lived it. Breathed it. No question about it. But I was forced to hang that plan out to dry when it was discovered, to my great humiliation, that I could not sew my way out of a dripping wet paper bag. Even so, the fantasy never died and many years later I sat at my drawing table, curious to see if I still had ‘the eye’. Fueled by Maxwell House, ciggies and the excitement of rediscovering an old love, I designed the entire CROQUIS COLLECTION in three days. That was over twenty years ago. Now, I don’t know about you, Sugar, but I’ve always believed that while trends come and go, the classics never die. Come on. Don’t you agree?
So here’s the real deal. Whether you’re ensconced in the executive suite or carving out a spot under the stairs at home, add some sparkle and energy to your office space with art that puts a contented smile on your face every time your tired little peepers fall upon it. You owe it to yourself. After all, you’re working hard and toiling with so much conviction. Show the world just what you’re packing with a spirited and fashionable flair!

How’s It Hanging? Pt. II
For Part II of our How’s It Hanging series, (I just thought of the title. Is it clever or crass?) we’ll focus on art displays in foyers, nooks and corners. It’s the small vignettes you set up here and there I think that come together and form the overall statement of your space. Focusing on your entire home, or even one room, can be overwhelming. Where do you start? Try breaking things down into smaller pieces instead. And whatever you do, don’t forget the art!
On the left is a chic corner bar setup by Style At Home. Featured are two selections from the VINTAGE COLLECTION. RENAULD and TAKING CARE OF BIZNESS. Shown at 15.75 x 19.75 inches, they look great here, don’t you think? Sometimes color just isn’t necessary. And then sometimes it so IS. On the right is DOROTHY, also from the VINTAGE COLLECTION, shown at 27.5 x 19.75 inches. One of my favorite color combos, nothing adds snap like black, white and a healthy shot of red.
Here on the left is a welcoming little nook just outside the kitchen. Delicate drawings from PENCILS, both at 15.75 x 19.75 inches, add elegance and whimsy while you and your bestie spend Sunday afternoon drinking coffee and kicking around ideas on how to save the world. Or at least rescue a friend from yet another lousy relationship. On the right is a completely different vibe from Denise Smith Design. It’s red, white and black again but now with an Oriental flair. This print is called ON VACATION from the CROQUIS COLLECTION. Shown at 19.75 x 27.5 inches, it’s clean and graphic minimalism compliments but not too seriously. Just how serious can jangly ankle bracelets be?
Now imagine these four scenes with bare walls. Okay? You get the picture (ha-ha). They’re nice enough on their own but add to the mix the perfect piece of art, the one that makes your heart sing and BAM! The excitement is unparalleled and the difference—like night and day.
I neglected to spotlight a piece from the Gallery last Monday but I believe this one will make up for it. Ah…RENAULD. Renauld White. They called him Rennie. Remember him? He was the premiere African-American male model of his day, the first to grace the cover of GQ magazine. I created this piece in 1980-81, keeping him tucked away on my drawing table at work, in the back of my large layout paper pad, and whenever there was down time I worked on him. It took weeks to get the folds of his suit just right, the shading of his beautiful hands just so. Wasn’t he fine? I saw pix of him a few years ago and he’s still fine.
I’ll bet there’s a corner in your home that stands empty and forlorn, isn’t there? A little nook that begs to be brought to life, like your very own episode on HGTV, with just a small table, a few knick-knacks and a fabulous and fun illustration. Take a look around—
And welcome to the FASHION+ART Online Gallery.
Sizzle, Pizzazz and Options? Yes Please!
Today’s post will be kind of long because like Lucy, I’ve got some ‘splainin’ to do. This will sound undoubtedly wacky to some but for those who know me, it won’t. Yes. I’m a persnickety woman. Most designers are. And as a designer, I don’t like being told there’s only ONE way to do things. Design options are our BFF’s. But there comes a time, for the sake of business, commerce and harmony in the home, when you must concede and accept your reality, no matter how funky it proves to be.
Originally, the prints of FASHION+ART were meant to be produced in two sizes. Our 15.75 x 19.75-inch size, which has been featured on the website since the launch, and a more luxurious size of 19.75 x 27.5 inches, which we haven’t featured on the site until now for one simple and, to some, very silly reason.
I DON’T LIKE ONLINE DROP DOWN PRICE BOXES.
This disdain of mine has been a big fat pain—and you know where, don’t you—for weeks. But more than that, it has deprived you, YOU, my customers and friends, of variety, range and options of your own. I really needed to get over it, as my girlfriend DC says, “with a quickness!” So, I am now officially over it and we are finally introducing the LARGER versions of our prints—a new world of display choices for the collections of FASHION+ART. Also, (sigh), a new drop box feature on the detail page of each print in the Gallery.
The image above features the entire BLACK & WHITE COLLECTION. For a bold and dramatic room like this, you need art that speaks the same language. These ladies give off serious drama, don’t they? Three prints are dominant at 19.75 x 27.5 inches while three hold their own at the smaller size of 15.75 x 19.75 inches. Mix and match to your hearts’ content.
This West Elm living room features a mix of collections—because you can do that—of Curious from the DIGITAL COLLECTION and Hot Melon from SOLITAIRES at 15.75 x 19.75 inches on each end. In the center is Anatomy x 8 from SOLITAIRES at 27.5 x 19.75 inches. Mix it up. Go with your flow. How could you possibly go wrong?
This is a Crate & Barrel living room featuring “Winter Plaid” and “Flow” from the SOLITAIRES COLLECTION. Both are shown at 19.75 x 27.5 inches. Sometimes it’s a color thing. Dabs of mustard yellow here and there lend just the right amount of heat to a cool, sleek space.
There’s no denying that your choices have now tripled. At least! The possibilities are infinite and that’s always a good thing, don’t you agree? In the days to come we’ll ogle more spaces and explore how FASHION+ART can add new swag and delight to your foyer, your bath, your office, any nook and cranny needing a shot of haute couture drama. FASHION+ART can step in, sporting a killer pump, and fill your spot with sizzle and pizazz! That IS your middle name, correct?

The Lady in the Hat
My mother wore a hat like nobody’s business. She had a way of setting a wide-brimmed straw squarely atop her tiny head like a crown, and when she stepped into a room, she wasn’t greeted with, “Hello, how are you?” but “Girl, where did you get that hat?!” Everyone can’t rock a hat but Miss Rose certainly could. So it should not be much of a surprise that hats pop up again and again in the Gallery. Moms put her stamp on me from Day One.
Our featured piece this week is WINDY. It’s not only a tribute to Miss Rose but also my home town, the Windy City, Chicago. Gusts on Michigan Ave. can blow you right over. Keeping your hat on and your dress down is a major challenge some days. But this print brings a sweet, don’t-worry-about-a-thing breeziness into your space. Don’t you love how she’s leaning into it, going with it? The stripes of her dress dance all around her like happy little children.
Are you smiling? You can’t help it, can you? Seeing this much fun is, well, fun! And come on. Couldn’t you use some fun right about now?
